Not just your normal ceremony

When my husband and I were getting married, we didn't want your normal long, boring ceremony. We knew lighting candles and pouring sand were the popular unity ceremonies people did but we wanted something that felt more... us. When looking around online years ago it wasn't as prevalent as it is today to find alternatives. We ended up making our own dialog and did a beer blending. It was entertaining to our guests but fun for us in the process of planning to find the beers we liked, and wanted to mix! So to help you in your journey of all things wedding ceremony, I put a couple of my favorites below.

Ring warming

If being up at the alter as the center of attention is enough to make you want to crawl in a hole, this is a nice way to divert attention to your guests and off of you, the couple!

A chosen member of your bridal party will hand the rings to a guest and have them pass it around while the officiant will give directions. Whether they want to say a prayer, a wish, a bit of advice for marriage, it brings the guests in on providing blessings for a long and loving marriage!

Glass blending

We have all heard of sand blending but a unique way to touch on this old tradition is glass blending! The couple will choose their colors of choice, pour them together during the ceremony, and then send it back to be heated and blended together. Such a unique colorful way to add a decorative piece to your home in remembrance of your wedding day.

Wine ceremony

No, this isn't the same as pouring two glasses together. Instead, you are creating a time capsule for a future anniversary! Whether you choose to open it in 5 years or 10, you get to choose. The couple will place a bottle of wine as well as any other pieces they want to put in such as their vows, a wedding invitation, or notes to their future selves/spouse. Something to look forward to as a couple and opening to reminisce on your big day!

These are just to name a few, fun alternatives to what we have normally seen in the past at weddings! But don't feel discouraged if all your searches are coming up with the sand, plant, salt, the list goes on of the past unity ceremonies. Whether you love food and want to make a "unity sandwich" or you are both artist and want to make a painting together, there are so many alternatives to make it uniquely you! If you are feeling stuck, you can reach out to us and we have a list of unity ceremonies that may help in your search for what screams "this is so us."
